It is said that those who decorate for Christmas early tend to be happier people. Whether it is because we are happier once the decorations are up or happy people just want more reason to be happy, we at HillTop fit the description. Spreading what could only be referred to as holiday cheer is one of the most enjoyable activities of the season.
Decorating for the holidays brings back the Christmas magic you remember when growing up. This magic is often reflected in our holiday decorating. Decorating the naturally charming and authentic Sherwood Inn year after year has turned into a favourite Christmas tradition.
In a rustic and historic setting like Sherwood Inn, it is important to remember to keep decoration simplistic with a touch of nature and nostalgia.
First and foremost, the Christmas tree. Essential to giving spaces a festive atmosphere, a Christmas tree is the most important focal point in the room for the season. It should be decorated in a way that mirrors the character of the space it is in. Using the cozy cottage and classic elegance vibes that Sherwood Inn radiates, burlap garland and vintage-style ornaments were determined a good fit.
Sherwood Innsâ fabulous fireplace naturally captures your attention the moment you enter the room, making it the next most important focal point for Christmas decoration. Keeping with the rustic and rural ambience of the Inn, it was decided that Christmas classics like Santa, skis and Christmas trees should be used as classic mantle dĂ©cor. Continuing to keep things simple, a red pickup truck was added for some interest and colour.
Decorating for the holidays is not complete until seasonal pillows are added to the sitting areas. This is one of the easiest ways of infusing holiday spirit into any sitting room. Donât just stop at pillows, consider adding cozy throws to seating areas to make guests feel welcome and at home.
Finally, but most importantly, giving attention to décor at the entrance lets people know that they are welcome, and you look forward to sharing the holidays with them. With many guests around the holidays, this was especially important to keep in mind when decorating at Sherwood Inn. While bringing the outdoors in at this time of year is a nice touch, the opposite works just as well. Visitors will feel warm immediately on arrival by bringing the indoors out. Draped wool blankets over Muskoka chairs and lit candles with their warm glow are a welcoming sight for guests arriving in the evening.
The magic and spirit of Christmas will always be in our hearts, but Christmas décor and the pleasure in decorating for the holiday season helps remind us of this magic year after year. Happy Holidays from our family to yours!
